Instant Backlink Help: 5 Tips To Help Make Your Website Or Hubpages Backlink Strategy Work For You

Updated on December 9, 2013

For anyone who has a website, whether it is a blog or a commercial website for a business, getting your page higher in search engine results can be a frustrating task. If you are like me, a few days into working on your search rankings and you are pulling your hair out and threatening to throw your laptop across the room. Getting higher rankings does not, however, have to be such a frustrating job.

One of the most difficult tasks you must complete to get higher search results is to get backlinks to your website. These backlinks can range anywhere from high quality backlinks on sites that provide "dofollow" links, to simple links on a friends blog. However, if you do not have a little strategy, gaining backlinks here and there will not likely bring the results you are looking for. Below I will give you some tips that I have compiled that have helped me to both keep my sanity and get better results. Feel free to leave some ideas you have come across in the comment section at the bottom.

#1 Backlinking Strategy Tip: Get Organized!

The number one reason many people cannot get any benefit from their backlink strategy is that they are not organized; they have no idea where they need backlinks or any idea about tracking backlinks. Most people have no idea where they have backlinks coming from, what sites give good backlinks, and what progress their website has had in their strategy. To have a beneficial backlinking strategy, you must be able to measure the benefit and duplicate the outcome, and to do each of these you must be organized.

For some people, for whom money is not a problem, they may choose to pay a company to place backlinks and research what is working and what is not. For the rest of us that are doing everything ourselves, we can start out with a spreadsheet program, such as Excel, and keep track of what we do with each hub, blog, or any other page we have.

#2 Backlinking Strategy Tip: Share The Love, Exchange Backlinks

While trying to get backlinks, you will most likely place links in comment areas of blogs and other websites. One of the best things to remember when attempting to place these links is to give the page's owner a reason to approve your comment.

If you simply comment "nice blog" or "very interesting", more likely than not, the writer will not approve your comment, because they know you are just doing so for the backlink. Would you allow someone a backlink on your site simply because they wanted it? Probably not.

Take the time to read the content of the site and write a couple sentences at least that contextually match the blog or blog post. Also, if you know of a tip that could definitely help the writer with their subject or their site, tactfully include it in your comment.

Lastly, if the site looks like it gets decent traffic, consider offering trading backlinks with the writer. That way it is a win win for the both of you.

#3 Backlinking Strategy Tip: Be Resourceful

Sites To Submit Your Blog Or Website

Anyone starting out with Internet marketing of any kind, be it selling a certain product or pushing traffic to a blog, will quickly find out what the seasoned Internet marketeer knows: either learn to be resourceful, be happy with poor numbers, or quit altogether. For those new to the topic, html, backlinking, SEO and other topics can be mind-numbing. Either you jump in wholeheartedly or you will remain confused and disappointed until you hang it up.

Now, being resourceful partly falls into the same line of thought as #1 (Get Organized), you must have a plan and figure out what works and what doesn't work. Then you have to constantly find more ways to drive traffic and make your pages more apt to produce ad clicks, merchandise purchases, or whatever the end goal is. Constantly search to find what new website or blog lists are out there. Make sure your feeds are on every feedlist you can find. Know what blogs there are about your topic or keyword, which are most visited, and try to comment on their posts as often as possible.

Lastly, gain some personal contacts that you can use. Make contact with those you see doing the same thing, be it in the same niche or not, with whom you can develop a working friendship. Consult with them about what is working for you and what is not working. Ask advice. Share advice. People focus too much on playing everything closely to the vest. Yes there are things you will not share, but they should be few and far between. The Internet rewards pages that are interconnected with other successful pages, not those that are islands.

#4 Backlinking Strategy Tip: Be Relentless

One thing to remember while trying to get your page to the top of Google's searches is that once you get it there the work is not done. For most competitive keywords, you must continue to work on your backlinks for a site to keep it in the first ten or at the top of the search results.

The reason for this is simple: if you are at the top, there are others trying to get their page ranked above yours. If you want to keep up or surpass theirs, you must be dilligent about getting every quality backlink you can find for your website.

Now, understand that backlinking is definitely not the only thing that enters into getting to the top of the search results. You must have good content that stays current. You must have good keywords and keyword placement. And you must use your backlinks in a way that identify your site as the best for those keywords.

#5 Backlinking Strategy Tip: Use Trial And Error

While you are trying to get the most out of your backlink strategy, you will see various strategies and suggestions. Some of these will be sound ideas that will bring traffic, be it great or small. Others will have no effect whatsoever and will be a waste of time.

Do not get discouraged when ideas do not work. Simply mark them up as something to not try again. Sometimes you may even find a way to adjust the idea or strategy in a way that it does work. Either way, keep in mind that you have to fail with some ideas and strategies to be able to succeed with others. Keep track of the lessons you learn from the failures as much as you keep track of the lessons you learn from the successes.
